The recycling

process

Step
1

Collection of packaging

Packaging materials (like plastic bottles, trays, foil etc.) are collected after they were used.

2

Material preparation

Before recycling, the plastic containers are sorted by material, shredded into small pieces and washed.

3

Plastics recycling

Now, a recycling extruder melts the material, filters the liquid material and finally processes it again to granules (or other shapes, like sheet rolls).

4

Super-clean process

This is the essential step to remove all potential contaminants and odors from the plastics material and make it safe for food contact. Depending on the technology, the super-cleaning process can take place before, during or after the recycling step.

5

Converting into something new

The recycled material is used to produce new products, e.g. bottles, cups, caps or trays. Production processes like extrusion, injection molding, or thermoforming are applied to give the recycled material the desired, new shape.

6

Made from up to 100% recycled material

Packaging protects the goods during transport and keeps them fresh and safe. Sustainable packaging is both made from recycled material AND designed to be fully recycled again. It has a low carbon footprint and avoids plastics waste.
