PETman invests in viscoZERO
PETman established its headquarters in Frankenburg in Upper Austria, where PET has been recycled and processed into high-quality food-grade sheet and packaging since 2018. PETman has grown steadily in line with the increasing demand - particularly for packaging made from recycled materials and is now producing 12,000 tons of rPET annually, supplying customers across Europe.
Sustainability is deeply rooted in the company, which is why PETman produces packaging that has an unlimited lifespan. In support of a future without packaging waste, the company is involved in pioneering projects and is boldly breaking new ground. This is one of the reasons why the company is keen on keeping up to date with the latest technical developments – thus has invested in high-end solution for producing resins of outstanding quality. A line consisting of a dynamic pelletizing line with melt phase decontamination technology and a module for crystallization, drying and dedusting of polyolefins like PE, PP and PS.
The combination of recoSTAR dynamic, viscoZERO and a crystallizer is unique and enables the company to open up new markets while contributing to the circular economy, as it recycles polyolefins and polystyrene on top of PET to food-grade quality resins. This means that other post-consumer plastics can also be returned to the production cycle in the future. „With this technology, we combine the latest innovations and thus come a big step closer to the goal of a closed cycle for all plastics.” said Gerhard Bräuer, Product Manager viscoZERO at Starlinger viscotec.
Novel technology: food safety for recycled PE, PP and PS
Extensive data collection is required in order to approve new technologies for recycling processes by the European legislation regulating the use of recycled material for direct food contact (EU 2022/1616). PETman and Starlinger viscotec are currently undergoing this process with the new viscoZERO plant to obtain approval in the European Union.
