“Our passion is plastics recycling,” states PETman Managing Partner Markus Neudorfer. That is why the Austrian company has been producing food-grade recycled PET and rPET sheet for many years.
“And I also see great potential for packaging made from super clean polyolefins and PS recyclate,” he names the main reason for their latest investment in a recycling line with viscoZERO technology. It is a dynamic pelletizing line with melt phase decontamination technology and a downstream unit for cleaning and odor reduction of polyolefins like PE, PP and PS.
“After evaluating multiple technologies for polyolefins and polystyrene, we decided to go the path with viscoZERO technology for super-cleaning, due to outstanding decontamination efficiency and a lasting odor reduction. Starlinger viscotec demonstrated that the use of recyclates of PE, PP and PS is possible for food and contact sensitive packaging in various applications – with percentages far beyond the requirements specified in PPWR (European Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive),” Markus states.
The business concept of PETman with the new viscoZERO pelletizing line includes the super cleaning and contract pelletizing of customer’s materials, as well as the production of own recyclates for the market.
PETman operates the line under the EFSA “Novel technology” applications of Starlinger viscotec; the PP, PE and PS recyclates can be used legally for contact sensitive applications according to the compliance data sheet issued from PETman after processing and laboratory tests. The line setup allows PETman a wide range of applications for rigid and flexible input aterials from PE, PP, PS and PET. It is equipped with additional flakes sorting for color and foreign materials.
