ANL Packaging is a leading European packaging producer of thermoformed packaging, like containers, trays and inserts for the food and nonfood industry, who serves customers with customized, but also standardized solutions.
Biscuit and chocolate are the market segment from which the growth of ANL Packaging originated. From there the company was able to grow further to embrace other packaging applications in a broad variety of sectors. A broad panel of technologies, such as injection or molding, is also offered. ANL Packaging is based in Wellen, Belgium, and employs more than 300 people in three plants in Belgium, France and Poland. Since 2022 ANL Packaging is part of the Somater Group, a French manufacturer of plastic and polymer primary packaging for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food and industry.
Monomaterials: the key to a closed loop
ANL Packaging and Starlinger viscotec are united by both companies’ dedication to the highest quality, safety and purity for food contact packaging. Our efforts to make the vision of closed recycling loops for thermoformed packaging a reality. “At ANL Packaging we design to recycle. We prefer to use mono materials that can be easily recycled. We try to use as less additives as possible since they make it harder to recycle. We try to adapt the designs of your packaging where possible to enhance mechanical features, depending less on material characteristics.”, explains Mr. Laurent Vanmechelen, product design engineer, the principles of ANL’s circular vision. “We only use food safe materials in our plants, also for our non-food products.” He adds.

State of the art equipment for rPET
The use of recycled materials is another integral part of the company’s sustainability effort. For almost 10 years, ANL has been refining recycled PET waste using solid state polycondensation, a viscoSTAR reactor, to restore the material properties and purify the material. In a next step, ANL expanded its sheet production capacities with a line for the extrusion of rPET from viscotec. In 2023 the company invested in another, identical viscoSHEET system to create additional capacity for top-quality rPET material. „We needed a well-equipped and high-quality production facility to keep pace with the rapidly growing demand. The great energy efficiency and the desire to standardize our systems were also driving forces behind the decision to work with viscotec again.” Mr. Laurent Vanmechelen.
